How to wash a Madlug backpack
Madlug backpacks are not only stylish and functional – they are built to last. But while Madlug bags may be durable enough to withstand general wear and tear, it's still important to take good care of them to ensure their longevity.
A question we frequently get asked by customers is how to wash a Madlug backpack. While some customers have washed their bags inside a pillowcase on a gentle setting in the washing machine with no issues, we advise you hand wash your bag just to be safe.
Here is how we recommend you wash your backpack:
1) Fill your sink or bath with lukewarm water
The first step to washing your Madlug backpack is to fill a sink or bathtub – depending on the size of your Madlug – with lukewarm water. We recommend that you avoid using hot water as it can damage the material of the backpack.
2) Add a gentle detergent
Next, add a small amount of gentle detergent to the water. Since Madlug backpacks are made with durable materials that don’t require heavy cleaning, you will only need a little bit of detergent. To protect the bag, we also recommend you use a mild detergent that won't damage the backpack's material.
3) Gently scrub the bag
Using a soft-bristled brush or a clean sponge, gently scrub the bag in a circular motion, paying extra attention to any areas that are particularly dirty or stained.
4) Rinse thoroughly
Once you've finished scrubbing the backpack, rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove all the detergent. Make sure to rinse out all the suds, as the leftover detergent can damage the material of the backpack.
5) Dry your Madlug
After rinsing, gently squeeze out any excess water from the backpack, making sure to avoid wringing or twisting the backpack. Hang the backpack up to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Make sure the backpack is completely dry before storing it away.
Extra tip
Madlug bags are water-resistant, meaning they can withstand light rain and splashes of water. However, if you plan to use your Madlug backpack in heavy rain or other wet conditions, you may want to consider waterproofing it to protect your belongings from water damage. Many customers have reported using a waterproof spray to protect their Madlug from water damage. Simply spray the backpack evenly and allow it to dry completely before using it in wet conditions. Alternatively, use a rain cover and place it over your backpack to protect it from rain and moisture. Even better? They are lightweight and easy to pack.
